Every year starting October, the burning of stubble (crop residue) in northern India, particularly in the state of Punjab, often gets touted as one of the major contributors to the pollution of Delhi, the country’s national capital. Yet there is much more to stubble burning than what meets the eye.

The short feature documentary attempts to shift the perspective from mainstream news reporting, to the vast agricultural expanse of Punjab – and to its farmers. It takes a small region in the state as an example to reflect on how a web of agricultural policies have, over the years, adversely affected the land’s ecology and environment.

Against this backdrop, two characters who choose to farm differently, might be setting the example that Punjab needs if it is to retain its original character – of being India’s agricultural stalwart.
